HOGSLAYER - A LEGEND RETIRES
T.C. Christenson of Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA, took no prisoners
on his Norton powered Hogslayer when it dominated the American
drag strip, in the 1970’s. Previously, Harley Davidson or Hogs
as they were known were the dominant force, hence the name Hogslayer.
This most famous of all drag bikes which dominated for so long,
has been acquired with great pride by the National Motorcycle Museum.

More than 500 machines, including exciting new
acquisitions, should be on display when the National Motorcycle
Museum re-opens its doors to the public on December 1.
Following the disastrous fire in September 2003, NMM owner
Roy Richards and his team have worked flat-outon reconstuctions,
helped by restorers and supporters in the UK and America.
A star exhibit at the rebuilt NMM will be the Norton drag racer
Hogslayer, powered by two Commando engines. Piloted by
Tom 'TC' Christenson, the snorting 180mph 1760cc fuel-injected
Harley-beater ruled Anmerican dragstrips in the Seventies
and notchded Europe's first sub nine-second quarter
on one of TC's UK visitis in 1974.
Hogslayer's move to the UK was officially announced at the
recent IndianapolisNationals, the world's biggest drag
racing event.
Several important bikes badly damaged in the fire have
now been restored.
They include the famous Triumph Trident racer Slippery Sam,
The Hogslayer and the Texas Cigar Triumph
the 1956 215mph Texas Cigar Triumph record-breaker rebuilt in
the USA, the earliest BSA (1903), the 1924 LeVack Brough-Superior
SS100 prototype and Jim Alves' 1954 ISDT 650 Triumph.
Bikes that escaped the fire will make up roughly half of
the new display.
"The last year has been a real slog, but we are on target
to perform a miracle." said museum owner Roy Richards.
"The gutted buildings have all been replaced
and we have spent 1.2m installing a sprinkler system.
We had to take a knockfrom low insurancde payouts, but
we're back in business with the world'sbest collection
of British motorcycles, all up to our high standards."
